Why People Are Ditching Teslas And It's Not About The Environment

Posted July 3, 2025

So recently, I was scrolling through LinkedIn and saw a headline:

Elon Musk’s EV stocks are falling.

Naturally, everyone had an opinion.

Some blamed the environment.

Some blamed the economy.

But honestly? A lot of it is just people being done with Elon, not electric cars.

Yep, I said it.

Even celebrities are speaking up and ditching their Teslas. Not because they suddenly hate electric vehicles, but because they want to make a statement. And for some, that statement is: “I don’t support Elon anymore.”

I mentioned all this online, just reporting what I see trending, and people got mad.

Some were like, "You're spreading fake news!” Others were angry at the fact that EVs weren’t selling as well and felt like I was part of the problem.

But here’s the truth…

I’m active on TikTok. I’m active on Threads and Instagram in fact.

I interact with actual American consumers every day.

And what I’ve noticed is that this has nothing to do with people turning against EVs.

It has everything to do with how consumer behavior works in America.

Here's how it usually goes:

Something becomes trendy.

Everyone rushes to buy it.

Then, just as fast, people stop caring.

Suddenly, it’s "not cool" anymore.

And boom, people drop the product entirely.

We’ve seen it happen with fashion, tech, apps, even food. So of course it was going to happen with EVs too, especially when the person behind them becomes polarizing.

Also, let’s be honest:

Americans are heavily influenced.

Celebrities, influencers, and politicians shape a lot of our buying habits.

Do we think for ourselves?

Sure, but only about 50% of the time. Maybe even less if we’re being real.

It’s not about saving the planet or hating EVs.

It’s about public perception, who’s trending, and what’s no longer “in.”

The takeaway?

Don’t be mad at people for no longer buying Teslas.

Don’t bully others into “saving the planet” your way.

And definitely don’t take it personally when a product stops selling.

In America, we often react first and think second.

It’s just how consumer culture works here. And it always has.

So if you’re confused about why people are walking away from EVs, here’s your answer:

It’s not really the cars.

It’s just Elon.

And when someone’s image falls out of favor?

Well... so does everything they’re attached to.
