What’s really behind the Gen Z backlash against Sabrina Carpenter’s new album?
I keep seeing a lot of theories floating around about why Gen Z is seemingly offended by Sabrina Carpenter’s latest work. As a Gen Z myself (and about 20% Sabrina Carpenter fan, shoutout to Espresso and Busy Woman!), I’m here to share the real deal.
Critics and fans alike are calling out the album for being “all about sex,” but it’s not that simple. Some say it’s because Gen Z is becoming more Christian, that’s not true. The real reason? Many Gen Zers feel like Sabrina is letting men use and take advantage of her, which sparks concern and criticism.
Here’s what Gen Z really wants in music: empowerment, female independence, and inclusion, songs that celebrate strength, diversity, and community.
Sabrina’s message, she says, is about body positivity and being open about her own body image. But the backlash stems from a deeper fear, a fear of men exploiting her.
To brands and marketers out there wanting to understand Gen Z better, feel free to ask me your questions about my generation’s values and behaviors. I’m all ears.
Let’s get the conversation right about my generation, not theories 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
