Let People Enjoy Things, Why My Nickelodeon Faves Don’t Need Your Approval

I recently posted about how the only two shows I really watch on Nickelodeon right now are Wylde Pak and Thundermans Undercover. Simple, honest post about my preferences, right? But of course, someone just had to jump in and reply, “Nah, who even watches Wylde Pak? SpongeBob and Loud House are the current shows.”
Like… did I ask? I wasn’t speaking for the whole world, I was just talking about me. The reading comprehension struggle is real out there. 😩
What made it worse is that this person gave off serious brat summer fan vibes. You know the type of fans who can’t stand when someone likes something they don’t. Whether it's Taylor Swift or some random show someone enjoys, they feel the need to jump in and throw hate into an otherwise positive conversation. I’ve yet to meet a “brat summer” fan who just says, “Hey, I respect your choice. Be you.” It’s always giving judgment. Always giving negativity.
Now, for those lacking basic knowledge: Wylde Pak is a Korean American show. So when someone comes into the comments dismissing it with no real reason, it makes me raise an eyebrow. It almost sounds like something deeper, like a bias. Maybe even racism, especially when it’s coming from someone who clearly knows nothing about Korean culture or Asian American representation in media.
Here’s the thing: I love Wylde Pak because it highlights Asian culture and traditions. As an American viewer, some of those cultural elements are unfamiliar, but that’s what makes it so interesting and funny. The reactions, the energy, the way they tell stories, it’s fresh and entertaining. I’m not calling it weird in a bad way; I’m saying it’s not what I grew up with, and that’s what makes it stand out.
And if you’ve ever crossed paths with Koreans, especially in entertainment or online, you know they don’t play. They’re feisty, bold, and proud of their culture and I love that energy. I’ve learned not to mess with them, and I respect it.
So let people enjoy things. Not everything has to be your thing. But if you don’t get it, maybe try learning something before you come for a show, or a whole culture you clearly know nothing about.
I’m not trying to be mean I’m just speaking my mind. At the end of the day, we need to respect people’s choices, whether you like them or not. It costs zero dollars to let someone enjoy something in peace.
