Shifting Gears episode last night was a great move on for Riley after her ex came back knocking on Matt's door to ask for her hand in marriage a second time around. Which caused a lot of surprises for Riley and her father Matt who just getting used to Riley living back with him again.
You can see why there's a struggle for Matt to say why he doesn't want his daughter to leave and go back to her ex husband who has plans to buy a house not so far from her father's house and go on tour with his band.
So Riley did a lot of thinking and questioning in this season 1 finale episode. Riley went as far to ask her father what he thinks, which Matt replied it's not his decision and that Riley is a smart woman. But digging a little deeper, we found out Matt is actually hiding his feelings on Riley potentially leaving him for her ex.
Throughout the episode Riley ask her father friends for advice on the situation and they all agree she should follow her heart. Except one guy who name is Gabriel said she should leave her ex since he's a jerk, to his denial of his crush on Riley. Riley boss aka Eve at the dance studio she works at, is even struggling with the idea of Riley potentially leaving as well. Leading up to hidden anger issues and feelings just like Matt.
So to summarize the finale, Riley turned down her ex proposal knowing it's not right for her but giving the kids the exception on going on tour with their father instead. Eve gave her a surprise party in honoring of her decision for not going back with her ex and moving on. Now there's one surprise we all weren't expecting, and that's Eve kissing Matt in a bantering way, leaving us to speculate if there's a season 2, could this kiss begins a new relationship for Matt.
How Do I Feel About This?
Matt and Eve always been bantering over their political sides etc on the show. But turning this friendship they grew in a few episodes to a relationship, really ruins the bantering relationship of Matt and Eve. I was expecting Matt to find someone who's less political and more like knowing how to counteract his notions and political bantering into less progressive replies like when his guest star from Last Man Standing Nancy Travis did. Someone like her is a perfect match for Matt character played by Tim Allen instead of Eve. But other then that, it was a good episode.
